Pepe`s Mexican Restaurant in Waukegan

I am very disappointed in this place, everytime I come my hard shell tacos is always stale, my food was not good at all, I had way better at other places, i wont be coming here anymore.

The fajitas were good and the staff was friendly

The menu and service were above my expectations. We really loved the vibes of this spot. Awesome restaurant to take my family out for dinner.

If you order delivery, check you order carefully. Missing items. No recourse from restaurant. Use another restaurant, for sure. Expensive and poor service.

Our waitress was very sweet. However, not at all very happy with the quality of food. I have never seen pre-wrapped tacos on a glass dinner plate. The food was very bland. Not at all authentic Mexican food. I will not be returning.

Pepe's salsa is DELICIOUS. Be prepared once you try the salsa, you will Crave it. Fajitas are wonderful. Pepe's also has the very BEST service. My favorite server works Tuesday & Friday nights. Eating at Pepe's = Excellent Experience

People ordering through doordash it's obviously taking their money sending dashers and grubbubbers and the building isn't even open people standing outside ready to pick orders up for no reason...that's wasting people's time money and gas ...

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants around! Great food. Great service. Chips and salsa are phenomenal! I would give anything for that salsa recipe. Highly recommend!

It's just OK Mexican food. Better than taco bell. The service was good and the food came out quickly. But seriously, in Waukegan you can get better tacos is the back of the Mexican grocery stores.

This spot never fails to impress. They serve excellent dishes for reasonable rates, there are no long waits even when the spot is full.

Service was terrible and the restaurant was not even busy. The food was underwhelming. I ordered the fajita shrimp salad which was not filled with much fajita. I had to order an additional side of sautéed green peppers and onions. The salad was presented in a taco bowl so I tranaferred it to another plate and realized that it was just filled with iceberg lettuce that was already browning. My friends and I drove from Milwaukee to dine at PePe's...I was disappointed with our decision to dine there.

New to the area and I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant. So glad I went to Pepes. The food was delish! The salsa is so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it. I was surprised at how fast the food came out and the waitress was super sweet. Definitely going back.

The food was good and the waitress was very friendly, but the owner/manager (dude in the 25th ID hat) was yelling and screaming at all the staff and ended up locking the doors. Made my friends and I very uncomfortable. Maybe you should keep your attitude in the back of the restaurant and not in front of customers, or try chilling the hell out. I won’t be back.

The worst Mexican restaurant experience I have ever had. $2.25 for a glass of RC Cola. That’s the price of two 2 Liters of RC. Never have I ever been to a Mexican restaurant that’s makes u pay more for steak on a taco. That makes u pay more for green sauce. The rice was very bland. The tacos were edible but nothing I would try again. The waitress was very nice but seemed to b confused as to if she gave us the correct food or not and then did not ask how the food was from the time it was set down to the time we left. My parents used to love this place and talk it up very much. My mother was very disappointed since she hadn’t been here in about 4 years. I could have gotten a better Mexican restaurant experience by eating a burrito at Chilies. Will never return to this place.

Worst Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to, the salsa was practically tomato juice. The water was disgusting, and the food quality was horrible. The rice was hard, beans were gross, and the margaritas are awful. I definitely do not recommend at all! I would rather take my girlfriend to Taco Bell as a date than come here again!! The worst part is I will never get back the time and money that was wasted here. Sincerely disgruntled customer.

Been eating at this location for 20 years! Consistently great service and food! Most of the servers here have been here for 5 years or more, they really know what they're doing! Very attentive owner, and all the great menu items you've come to expect from Pepe's.

Great enchiladas, on Monday they are 1.25 for carryout. Does taco Tuesday also, carryout is 1.25 each. Good burritos if eat in.

We've been going here for 24 years. A sure thing when it comes to chips and salsa. I love the passion fruit margarita on the rocks and enchiladas poblanos. Staff members are great and some of them have worked there almost as long as we have been going there.

the worst food I've had

Had an amazing dinner with my husband for a special date night. Food, wow so awesome. Came so fast unbelievably quick. Ask for Sarah, our awesome waitress, if you go there on a Saturday night. Best ever waitress. Their chips are super yummy. Come out piping hot to your table with just right flavored spice wise for us. Again ask for Sarah if you want a great time. She made our dining experience all that much better.

Theres only one server there who doesnt provide good service, the food is always good, hot, and out fast. The chefs there know how to cook Mexican food, and steve works.

The steak skewers are amazing. The staff speaks both english and spanish. Food is perfect everytime I visit and the price is fair

Tried the quesadillas - 1/2 steak 1/2 chicken...very good. Salsa was very fresh tasting and the chips were warm. We were almost full before the food came out!

This restaurant has been in Waukegan since I can remember and is always delicious. You can get a single item or a combination. The chicken entrees are my personal favorite. The Spanish rice is absolutely yummy. As an extra treat they even have Green River available to drink. If you don't know what that is that's a shame. It's a tasty lime flavored soda that has been around since the 50s or 60s I believe. If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine this is the place to go. They also have a birthday club where you get a free entree during the month of your birth.
